Sleepless and Sick

The girls are down with high fever (again!) and the cause is, as usual, unknown. Xuan kick start the whole "fever episode" running a temperature last Friday night, followed by En on Sunday. En hit a record high of 40.3°C while Xuan was burning at 40°C. The God-sent ear thermoscan is a great invention. Can't imagine what I'll do without it. But monitoring the munchkins every 30 minutes and administering medication 4 hourly really took a toll on me.

Previously when the munchkins fell ill, Ya Ya and I could still manage without additional help. Its amazing how we could "operate" in the day despite sleep deprivation over a few nights. On some nights, I think I only had maximum 2 hours of undisturbed sleep. Once the thermoscan reads 38.5°C or above, my mind will subconsciously stay awake even though my eyelids are down.

This time, I had to ask Gong Gong (my dad) to come over to help babysit the girls during the day, just so Ya Ya and I could take a break or catch some sleep. The entire household is down with cold, cough and body ache! Poor Di couldn't even take a day off because he is involved in the preparation of the first ever F1 Night Race held in town starting this coming Friday. He had to complete urgent tasks and be "on site standby" till 2 am during the race. He can't even "afford" to be sick. Can you beat that???

At home, Ya Ya and I are very grateful to Gong Gong for helping to "entertain" the 2 sick girls. He also bought us yummy meals (and herbal drinks too) so we don't have to worry about cooking or grocery shopping. Many thanks to Gong Gong!!! *Hugz*

I'm so looking forward to complete recovery for my family. Until then, please keep us in your prayers. Gracias!

Oh Dear! I hope they have recovered by now and you and Yaya had your rest too!

Is it true that when one of them falls ill then the germs will quickly spread to the other?

As you know I'll be having 3 kids at home soon and I can't imagine all 3 of them falling sick together every time.

Hi Dylan
Thanks, we are not fully recovered yet, but all of us (except my husband) are certainly sleeping better now with medication. My husband is doing his F1 on site duty as I'm typing at this hour. Kekeke...

Err... I'm afraid my answer to your question is YES, especially if the cause is viral. So far, there was NOT once where I have only one sick twin and the other spared. It's only a matter of time. Sometimes, both of them present the same symptoms on the same day. Other times it takes 2-4 days for the 2nd twin to present the same symptoms. The girls' doctor had to "extend his sympathy" to me once when he saw me 3 times in 2 days, ferrying the twins to see him due to viral fever & suspected early onset of lung infection. And he was absolutely right when he said that only parents like us will fully understand the down side of having twins. To the general public, twins are simply "fun" to have.

But I guess its all part and parcel of raising kids. The challenge with twins as compared to siblings of different ages is twins have more or less the same level of physical/cognitive development. Managing them from infancy to toddlerhood is really "double" the trouble. But hey, how often do they fall sick? You get double (triple in your case bcos have to include Issac) the blessings most of the time, so just be mentally prepared to accept any form of help when the kiddos are sick. All will be well in a few weeks time. :)

P/S: Its pointless separating them when they are sick. We tried that in the early days and the other twin still fall sick ultimately. :p

Thanks, Karen!
Read your blog last night and I'm so excited to know you're leaving the SAHM league and returning to work full time! Wanted to SMS you this morning, but you know how its like when the kiddos are not well. Will catch up with you soon though. Thanks again!

Thank you so much for your sweet comment on my blog. I hope your little girls are feeling better. Here, we are having flu season and let me tell you...it's not pretty ;)

I give you a lot of credit. A mom's job is a hard job, and even though my kids are already 17 and 12...you still worry and fuss over them the same way :)
